University of Delaware is a DISARMED campus.
“Weapons, Dangerous Instruments, and Explosive Chemicals or Devices on Campus
1. Statement of Policy
The possession, use or threat of use of any object that may reasonably be believed to cause physical injury to another person is prohibited.
2. Prohibited Activities
A student shall not possess, use, or threaten to use any of the following items:
1. Any firearm (including any weapon or instrument from which a shot, projectile, or other object may be discharged by force, whether operable or inoperable, loaded or unloaded);
2. Any deadly weapon, defined as any instrument, item, or material readily capable of causing death or serious physical injury;
3. Any BB gun, pellet gun, air rifle, paint gun, sword (whether decorative or not), or other martial arts weapon;
4. Any bomb, switchblade, billy club, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles, slingshot, razor, bicycle chain, or ice pick; or
5. Any knife (other than an ordinary pocketknife carried in a closed position, with a blade of three inches or less or cutlery of a reasonable size, when used in a kitchen or other food preparation area); or
6. Any explosive chemical or device including a substance or a combination of substances possessed or prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration, or detonation, including fireworks and illegal or potentially dangerous chemicals.
Note: Possession of a license to possess or use any of the above items shall not constitute a defense of any violation of this section.
3. Interpretation
This policy does not prohibit any instrument or chemical expressly authorized for the pursuit of the academic mission of the University and used in an authorized manner consistent with that academic mission. Questions concerning authorized chemicals and prohibited instruments should be addressed to the Department of Public Safety or Occupational Health and Safety.”

The Criminal Codes cite the following as deadly weapons: firearms (including any weapon from which a shot, projectile, or other object may be discharged by force, whether operable or inoperable, loaded or unloaded), a bomb, a knife (other than an ordinary pocketknife carried in a closed position, with a blade of three inches or less), a switchblade knife, a billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles, slingshot, razor, bicycle chain, ice pick, or any dangerous instrument which is used or attempted to be used to cause death or serious physical injury.”

Policy Name: Possession and Use of Firearms on University Property

PURPOSE
To safeguard the welfare of the University Community and the general public and to minimize the University’s liability in case of accidents.
POLICY
The possession or use of any firearm for the purpose of hunting or any other unauthorized activity is strictly prohibited.
Severe disciplinary action up to and including termination will be taken against any employee discovered in possession of an unauthorized firearm* or similar weapon on University property.
The Director of Public Safety or his designee shall be responsible for the prior review and approval of any requests for authorization.
* A firearm is any weapon from which a shot, projectile, or other object may be discharged by force, whether operable or inoperable, loaded or unloaded.”
